DIAMOND

SHEFFIELD

The ‘Diamond’ is Sheffield University’s largest investment in learning and teaching designed to inspire the next generation of engineers.

  • SCOPE OF WORK

    DIAMOND

    • Design and installation of post-tensioned slabs at levels 1-4 and roof, replacing original proposal for voided slabs.
    • Reduced slab depth from 500 mm to 350 mm across most floor spaces.
    • Increased ceiling void facilitating distribution of services.
    • Slabs designed to carry heavy loading for current occupancy levels (including a working jet engine).
    • Future-proofing load carrying capacity to allow for additional equipment to be added.
    • Design and installation of transfer beams to enable 15 m column-free lecture theatre.
    • Transfer beams designed to incorporate architect's aesthetical requirements - minimised cross-sectional dimensions with an elevation to mimic the bending moment diagram.
